World investment trends can change at a rapid rate. Europa Trust Company Ltd reports on the global trend developing in investing in cattle.

High-net worth individuals appear no longer content with investing money in banks, art or gold. New trends with more unusual forms of investment are occurring.  Back in 2013 Europa Trust Company Ltd reported that investors were moving away from traditional forms of investment with the unusual global trend developing at that time of investing in racing pigeons. It appears as if a new shift has taken place as investors have moved away from winged creatures to 4-legged creatures.

Selling top rated animals has been big business for agriculture for some time. Agriculture and the world of cattle has, until recently, been a specific industry reserved only for those in the farming field. However, record sales of cattle from international sources without extensive farming background suggest a new global trend of investment is developing.

To illustrate this trend, A Jersey cow named Karlie recently sold for $170,000 at an auction in Syracuse, New York. The $170,000 price beat the previous auction record in that area of $96,000. The auctioneers were aiming to sell Karlie the cow for at least $200,000.

Cows as investment are not alone in the eyes of investors. Bulls can create substantial returns on investment. A 13-month-old bull named Mike from Idaho in the U.S. was recently sold for $600,000. Similarly with the case of Karlie the cow, the bull’s original owners believed the he was worth far more.

The reason owners of cattle believe their livestock is worth more is due to the fact that investors have complex breeding programs in mind for their investments. Karlie the cow’s eggs have already been implanted into several surrogates. The fertilized embryos alone are worth $6,000. The investors who bought Mike the bull aim to create entire herds using him. Both breeding methods stand to make the new owners vast returns on their investment.

The record for the most expensive cow auctioned in the world belongs to Missy, a Holstein cow who was sold for $1.2 million.
